Walnut Ready for Mustang-9 World Series

The first ever Mustang-9 World Series starts this Friday, July 25th, here at Walnut PONY and we are ready for it. We have new baseballs with the PONY national championship stamps on them, new back stops with the world series logo, the fields are in great shape, the snack bar is stocked, the teams are arriving and the staff and volunteers are anxious to get started. Opening ceremonies will begin at 12:30pm Friday afternoon and the first of four games that day start at 2pm. Hart Wins Mustang-9 West Zone but North Valley Advances Too

The Mustang-9 West Zone championship game between Hart and North Valley was played in Walnut on Monday night to determine who would advance to the first ever Mustang-9 World Series later this week. Or at least that was what the players and parents thought before and during the game. PONY announced after the game that since one of the other Zones will not be coming, both West Zone teams, Hart and North Valley would be advancing to the World Series. Walnut’s Pony 14′s Will Advance to Super Regions

After losing their first game in the Region tournament in Azusa, Walnut's Pony 14U team took the hard route to qualify for the Super Regions. They had to win 4 straight games against the best 14U teams in the region, which they did by at least 6 runs, in order to reach the East Region, West Zone championship game and an automatic qualification to the Super Region. On Monday night they faced our rival city, Diamond Bar and came out on top by a final score of 9-3, eliminating Diamond Bar. Bronco-11 Zone Champion is Los Alamitoes

Los Alamitoes punched their ticket for the Bronco-11 World Series in Chesterfield, Virgina on Sunday by beating Simi Youth 14-2 in the West Zone championship game at Walnut. The game ended early due to the 10-run lead after 5 innings mercy rule and included a home run by Los Alamitoes' Luke George. Los Alamitos will start the World Series on Thursday. Walnut 14′s Win but 7′s and 10′s Eliminated

Two more Walnut teams were eliminated from the PONY all-stat season this weekend. The Pinto 7U team under Richard Freiholtz didn't finish in the top two of their pool so they did not advance to the Pinto-7 World Series semi-finals. They had a tough start during the tournament in Walnut a few weeks ago but they improved quickly and won the first few games of the Super Region to take their pool. The other Walnut team eliminated was the Mustang 10U. After having to go through the losers bracket at Mustang Super Regions they did will but the pitching was exhausted and they finally lost to Irvine 18-2. The Bronco -11 West Zone tournament in Walnut is nearly complete. Los Alamitos and Simi Youth will compete for the West Zone championship and a trip to the Bronco-11 World Series on Sunday. The Mustang-9 Zone is still going and will finish on Monday, with that winner also getting a trip to the Mustang-9 World Series but they won't have to travel far, as Walnut is also the World Series host. Walnut's 9U B team was eliminated on Saturday after a loss to Ahwatukee, Arizona, 14-0. The Mustang-9 West Zone tournament began on Friday with an opening ceremonies and four games. Bel Passi, Hart and Blossom Valley won and so did North Valley over our Walnut 9U B team. There will be four games on Saturday as well starting at 11am with Walnut facing the Arizona team. The Bronco-11 Zone played four games on Friday as well and said goodbye to two teams that were eliminated, North Bay and unfortunately our own 11U team who lost their second game to Sierra Valley. Walnut's 9U B team will be joined by teams from Ahwatukee (Arizona), West Seattle (Washington), Bel Passi (Northern CA), North Valley, Hart, Blossom Valley (Northern CA) and West Covina. Region Champs, Walnut’s Mustang 10U

Another tournament, another championship banner for our Mustang 10U all-stars. After sweeping through sections two weeks ago and winning that tournament, the 10's went undefeated again at the tougher East Region tournament and took the championship title. This is the first Mustang Region championship for Walnut since 2008. The 10's will move on to the Super Regions in San Marcos and play Corona on Friday. While Walnut jumped in front early once again, as they have most games this tournament, Whittier kept the game close.
