Sanctioned tournaments over San Gabriel Valley and beyond continued on Saturday but the weekend ended early for a couple of our Walnut all-star teams. The Shetland 6U team, managed by league VP Damian Rudolph, clinched a birth at next week’s region tournament and made it to the Section 1 championship game with a hard fought win against Whittier Royal on Saturday, 13-9. They fell behind 5-0 after the first inning but rallied to take the win. They will again face Whittier Royal on Sunday, needing only to win one of a possible two games to claim the Section 1 tournament.
The Mustang 10U all-stars rebounded from Friday’s no-hitter loss to bang out 18 hits to go with 18 runs to win big against Diamond Bar. Every starter in the lineup got at least one hit, while Nathan Rodriguez led the team with 3 hits and 5 RBI’s and Matt Leyva scored 4 runs. They play Monterey Park in a rematch of the first game and if they win that, they will play either West Covina Red or Charter Oak Gold later in the afternoon.
At the Bronco District 2 tournament in West Covina, our 12U Bronco team won their first game 17 to 5 against Duarte but fell in the second game, 18-5 to Charter Oak Silver and were eliminated from that tournament. However, all teams advance to next week’s section tournaments and Walnut will get to play at it’s home field at Creekside Park for the Section 2 tournament hosted by Walnut PONY.
Not getting any news or updates from our Foal all-star team other than what is reported from the PONY tournament brackets. It reports that the team lost today against Chino Hills and was also eliminated from that tournament. They do however advance to the Shetland Region next week.
