Bronco-11 West Zone Championship Game is set

Bronco-11 West Zone Championship Game is set

Another full day on Saturday of baseball at Walnut to determine the final two teams that will play for the West Zone Championship on Sunday. At stake are free tickets to Virginia for the Bronco-11 World Series.

The first game was a battle of undefeated teams, Irvine and Newport Harbor and they both played like it. Newport Harbor took the early 3-0 lead and pitcher John Olmstead kept Irvine hitless until the 4th inning when Irvine was able to also score a run and then score two more in the 6th inning to tie the game. Irvine pitchers Joshua Hall and Conner McGuire kept Newport from scoring after the 3rd inning as the game went into extra innings. Irvine scored in the top of the 8th inning on a costly error and then held on for the win that put them into Sunday’s Championship game.

The next game featured Ramona against Murrieta. That too was a very close game that looked like it was also heading to extra innings tied at a run apiece but Murrieta scored 5 runs in the top of the 7th inning, highlighted by a 2 run double by Steve Riddle. The final score was Murrieta 6-2.

Murrieta would than face Newport Harbor with the winner also going to Sunday’s Championship game. Murrieta continued where it left off from the last game and jumped out to a 5-0 lead before Newport Harbor was able to respond. The final score was 6-1 Murrieta.

This sets up the Championship game on Sunday at 11am between Irvine and Murrieta. Irvine only needs to win the first game to claim the title while Murrieta will have to win the 11am game to force a second game, ½ hour after the first, and of course win that one two.
