Three months and 293 games later, the 2015 Walnut PONY spring season came to an end Saturday with the crowning of four division champions. Up next is the all-star season for the selected all-star teams which can now be announced on our all-star teams page for 2015. The game results over the summer will be listed on the all-star results page.
The Champions League players kicked off the day with the first game at 8am. This was the first year that Walnut PONY Baseball has done a Champions Division and it’s been a great experience. All players got trophies, a yearbook and some great memories of playing baseball. View the game below.
The Pinto Championship game was next. The Texas Longhorns took a 7-2 lead into the last inning but Pinto Army tied the game at 7 all to force extra innings. Texas then scored 3 runs on a triple by Dylan Cardoza in the top of the 7th inning and the held on to take the game and Pinto Championship.
Shetland Navy won the Shetland Championship 12-11 against Shetland Texas when Noah Guillen hit a walk-off RBI in the bottom of the 5th inning to win the game.
In another close game, Mustang USC beat Mustang Navy 4-3 in a back and forth battle. USC’s Johnny Robles led the Trojans with 2 hits, 1 RBI and 2 shutout innings pitched.
The final game of the day was between Bronco teams Yale and UCLA. Yale took a 3-0 lead in the first inning but UCLA used four walks and a catcher’s interference to tie the game in the top of the 2nd inning. Yale pitchers Manny Salinas and Andrew Ramirez were able to shutdown UCLA the rest of the way while Dangelo Orozco put Yale up for good with an RBI single in the 5th inning.
