With the first week of sanctioned play now complete, all Walnut teams are still alive and more will play in their first sanctioned tournaments of the season. The Shetland 6’s stayed alive in the District 2 tournament on Sunday with two wins, first against the host Duarte 20 to 12 and later against the West Covina 5’s, 20-4. If they can beat West Covina Blue today and then beat Whittier Navy twice in the championship game, they will get to skip this weeks section tournament and would go straight to the region tournament.
The Walnut Pinto 8U team is already in their District 2 championship game today against West Covina Blue and will either need to win today or tomorrow to skip sections and go to the regions in West Covina on June 26th.
Foal or Shetland-4 (as PONY designates it) will play at Sections in Fullerton against either La Mirada or West Covina B on Friday. All teams advance, win or lose to the following weeks’ Region and ‘World Series’ tournaments.
In an unusual variation on the benefits of being a host team, both the Walnut Mustang 10U and Bronco 12U teams will play in the District tournaments despite hosting the following week’s Section Tournament in Walnut. We’re still trying to get clarification if both or either team wins districts, does that also mean they skip their host tournaments and go straight to Region? Never the less, the 1oU will play Monterey Park on Thursday at the District 1 Tournament in Charter Oak. While the 12U will play in the District 2 Tournament in West Covina on Friday against the winner of the Rowland Heights/Montclair game.
