The PONY Mustang-9 West Zone tournament will get started today, Friday, July 18th. Walnut’s 9U B team will be joined by teams from Ahwatukee (Arizona), West Seattle (Washington), Bel Passi (Northern CA), North Valley, Hart, Blossom Valley (Northern CA) and West Covina. All games will be on the south field and live streamed HERE for fans who couldn’t make it. We also have a have a live scoreboard on the front page and on the Mustang-9 Zone page that you can view the scorecast of all games.
For those Mustang-9 folks who just arrived, we would like to welcome all teams that our joining us for both of these West Zone tournaments. Again, we do live stream the games, so if there are family or friends who couldn’t make it to our beautiful park, please tell them to join us on this website to view the games. We also offer the games on DVD immediately following their conclusion for only $10. Our snack bar is well stocked with lots of tasty treats. For your convenience, we sell snack bar tickets that you can then use to purchase food and we also except all major credit cards. The gate fees for both Zone tournaments are $5 for adults/$3 for ages 12-17/11 and under are free. We’re sorry but no multiple day passes are available. There is a small parking lot but most spaces are restricted to managers, coaches and PONY officials.
At the Bronco-11 zone games Thursday night, Simi Valley went into extra innings to beat Hart 8-7. Both teams took advantage of the short fences on the south field to hit a combined four home runs. At the same time, Los Alamitos came from behind to beat Sierra Valley. The late games saw Scottsdate, AZ beat North Bay 8-2 and our Walnut team lost to the team from Maltby, Washington, 12-6.
For our local Walnut fans of our other all-star teams, the Pony 14U team played its first game of the PONY sanctioned season at the Region tournament in Azusa on Thursday against Covina and lost 5-2. They will next play on Saturday against the loser of the Sierra Madre and Azusa. Two of our other all-star teams are in action this weekend. The Pinto-7 West Zone World Series in Camarillo will have our 7’s go against the host today, Fountain Valley and Whittier on Saturday and Torrance American on Sunday to finish up pool play. If they finish in the top two of their pool, they will advance to the semi-finals on Monday. Region champs the Walnut Mustang 10U team, will kick off their Super Region journey against Corona Friday and again on Saturday against a team to be determined.
