It was reported on Saturday that Mustang player Matthew Leyva hit the first over-the-fence home run of the season in the Mustang Division. This apparently wasn’t accurate. Mustang LSU Tiger manager later reported that his player, Matthew Fernando had hit two over-the-fence home runs earlier in the season, however, that news was not reported at the time nor has any other reports given to this web site other than Matthew Leyva’s home run. Manager, coaches and/or team moms please feel free to email any remarkable RECENT achievements to this web site. Please include a picture of the player or players and as long as it was a recent event and is accurate, it will be posted here or on the Facebook page.
Here is the picture of Matthew Leyva. The Mustang Maryland Terrapin player who slugged a line drive homer over the left field green monster on the south field Saturday night. According to manager, Sal Rodriguez, “Matthew got a fast ball high and tight. Matt got his hips out and got full extension on the ball due to his quick hands and by the sound of the bat, I knew in milliseconds that ball was going yard and yelled “there it is”. I turned around from the third base coaching area, sure enough, the balled cleared the green monster on a liner. I would say it was a 225′-230′ moonshot.”. Leyva is also outstanding on the mound as he leads the Mustang division in lowest ERA and is second to Sean Matsubara in strikeouts with 65.
