Walnut Pinto A All-Stars Team beat Charter Oak Gold on Sunday, 14-10, to win the Region Tournament. Walnut fell behind, went ahead, tied and then finally went ahead to stay in the 5th inning. Walnut had already clinched a spot in next week’s Super Region but today’s win means they will be the number one seed out of the East Region. The Super Region consists of teams from all over Southern California and is the final step before the West Zone Pinto World Series.
In the same Region Tournament our Pinto B team’s Cinderella run came to an end with a loss to Whittier Navy, 4 to 1. The Pinto B or combo team did a great job making it as far as they did considering that there are two additional Pinto all-star teams this year from Walnut, the 7U and 8U (Pinto A). They beat 3 other league’s “A†teams, including beating the team they lost to today, 13-4 back on June 30th.
Our Bronco All-Stars continued their quest to win their Section 2 Tournament on Sunday by winning two games today. They first beat Charter Oak Blue 10-7 and then West Covina Blue 13-1. In the latter game, Matthew Olguin pitched a masterful 4 innings and went 2 for 3 with a triple. Daniel Genna went 2 for 2, scoring 3 runs, 3 RBI’s and also hitting an inside-the-park home run. They will play a rematch with Diamond Bar on Monday night and if they win that one, they will play them again the following night. Walnut has already qualified for next week’s Region Tournament, also hosted by West Covina.
