The Walnut B or Combo All-Star Team was 3 outs away from elimination, Saturday, from the Region Tournament against the host team, Monrovia. They were behind all game and went into the 6th and final inning still one run behind, 4 to 3. However the team didn’t give up and managed to load the bases when Alejandro Morales crushed a pitch for a ground rule double that scored both the tying and winning runs. Final score, 6-5 Walnut. They will play a rematch of a team that beat them at last week’s Sections, Whittier Navy, Sunday at noon.
The Pinto A team played and beat Whittier Navy on Saturday 15-5 in a game that ended early after 5 innings. With the win they have now guaranteed themselves a spot in next week’s Super Region in Garden Grove. They will play Charter Oak Gold in another rematch from Sections, on Sunday at 2pm.
The Bronco All-Stars played a tough Diamond Bar team at the Section 2 Tournament. With Pitcher Raymond Dorame keeping the Diamond bats silent the first 4 innings, Walnut jumped out to a 2-0 lead thanks to aggressive base running and doubles by Brock Cooper and Joshua Carnighan. Diamond Bar managed to get big hits and with a couple fielding mistakes by Walnut, they scored 5 runs over the last 3 innings to take the game, 5 to 3. Walnut came back in the second game of the day against Monterey Park and won handedly 16 to 6. They will now face Charter Oak Blue Sunday at 9am needing a win to guarantee them a spot in next week’s regionals.
Bad news to report for our two teams on the opposite end of the age divisions. The 4 year old Foal/Shetland-4 team lost both of their region games on Saturday, 2-15 to La Mirada and 0-10 to Chino Hills. They still get to play in next week’s West Zone So Cal World Series however. Unfortunately, the Pony-13 All-Stars don’t get another opportunity. After advancing from Sections last week, they lost both of their Region Tournament games and were eliminated. They gave a good showing on Saturday against a strong Glendora team and mounted a last inning rally but they fell short 10 to 12.
