The Pinto-7 All-Stars are in the Region Championship game on Monday night thanks to a 14 to 1 victory over Diamond Bar on Sunday. They will play West Covina needing to only beat them once either Monday or Tuesday night to win the Region. They have already qualified for the Pinto-7 West Zone World Series starting on Thursday.
Meanwhile, the Pinto A/8U team continued their remarkable run at the Super Regions by once again winning both of their games on Sunday. In the first game against Chino Hills they fell behind 5 to 2 before rallying within one run in the bottom of the 6th inning. That’s when Matt Leyva came to bat with 2 outs and two runners on and he hit both of them in to win the game. They then played a rematch with the team that beat them on Friday, Indio. This time Walnut jumped all over their nemesis and won big 13-3. On Monday they will have to again win twice if they want to qualify for the Pinto West Zone World Series. The first game is at 4pm against Corona and if they win that they will face Fountain Valley at 5:45pm, also on Monday.
At the Shetland Region in Walnut, our Shetland B team lost to West Covina Blue 11-1 but with an additional slot open at the Shetland West Zone World Series, they still have a chance of qualifying if they can beat West Covina Red 5 on Monday at 7pm. In other Shetland action, Charter Oak remains undefeated and will play in the Region Championship game on Tuesday night against the winner of Monday’s 5pm game between Whittier and West Covina White.
At the other Walnut tournament, the Mustang Region, Walnut may not have any teams playing anymore but there were several great games played on Sunday. West Covina Red qualified for Tuesday’s Region Championship game and will play the winner of the La Canada/Diamond Bar game on Monday night at 6pm.
The Bronco All-Stars saw their season come to an end on Sunday after a heartbreaking loss to La Canada 8 to 6 that eliminated them from the Region Tournament held in West Covina. Â Â
