Saturday’s Playoff Wrap-up

The playoffs for all divisions started on Saturday with a full day of exciting games and a few surprises.¬† The Pinto division’s number 1 and 2 seeds, Florida State and Texas A&M got off to good starts with mercy wins to start the morning. The afternoon game featured a game that saw UCLA come back from a 5 to 2 deficit to Notre Dame with a 2 run single from Brady Huckler that scored the tying and go ahead runs to give UCLA the 6-5 victory.¬† USC defeated Kansas 11-6 in the other Pinto afternoon game and were led by Austin Calzadiaz and Jacob Mikkelson 4 RBI’s a piece.

Two of the four Mustang and Bronco games went extra innings before a team claimed victory. Michigan scored 2 runs in the top of the eighth inning before holding on for a 12-11 win against Notre Dame. The Texas A&M Aggies had the biggest upset of the day. After only winning 2 games all season, they shocked UCLA by breaking open a 5-5 tie in the top of the 6th inning with 8 runs and winning 13 to 7.

The Bronco Kansas Jayhawks took a 4-0 lead against USC before the Trojans stormed back to tie the game at 5 apiece. Kansas took the lead for good in the bottom of the 6th inning thanks to a RBI triple by Daniel Gonzalez. In the last game of the day, UCLA Bruin Jared Free drove in the winning run with a double to deep right field. The Michigan bats were led by the 3 RBI’s of Marcus Barcenas, while UCLA also got 3 RBI’s and 4 hits from Juan Guardado.

Over at Snow Creek Park the Pony division’s Michigan Wolverines defeated the Rowland ASU team and will face Walnut USC next Wednesday night.

At the Shetland field, UCLA beat Texas A&M and will face the number one seed, Florida State on Tuesday. While the Clemson defeated Maryland and will await the winner of the Florida State/UCLA game. The evening game score between North Carolina and USC has not been reported yet. EDIT: Another exciting extra inning game apparently happened at the late Shetland game. USC nearly pulled off an upset of their own before falling to the number 2 seed North Carolina Tar Heels.

All games and scores are listed under each division’s playoff page. Playoff games resume on Tuesday, May 14 and will conclude on Championship Saturday, May 18th.
