Six Walnut All-Star Teams Play Sanctions on Saturday

The busiest day so far for Walnut all-star teams in PONY sanctioned play this Saturday. Two teams clinched spots in the next tournaments and one team was eliminated. The Pinto 8U team is still undefeated as they beat San Gabriel 12-0 and have a spot in the Super Regions. They play Whittier on Sunday with hopes of making it to the Region championship game on Tuesday.

The Shetland A team also are still undefeated after another close game against Whittier Royal. Aiden Olguin doubled in Ayden Ramirez in the final inning to win the game 10-9. The win clinched at least a spot in the Super Regions and if they can beat Charter Oak on Sunday, they will clinch a spot in the West Zone World Series.

Walnut’s other Shetland team, the B team, were eliminated on Saturday after a close lose to West Covina Blue 7-3. They had a pretty fair overall record, especially for a B team, of 5-6 and got a lot of good experience that they can use in the years to come.

The Foal, or Shetland-4 team, lost their first game of the day 21-20 to Chino Hills but bounced back to beat Garden Grove 12-9 later in the day. All Foal teams advance to their West Zone World Series regardless.

The Pinto 7U team had a rematch with the team that they played a 5 hour game against in non-sanctioned play, Monrovia. The game was again close but Walnut won after a wild throw to third base allowed the Walnut runner to score the walk-off run in the final inning. They play Jurupa Gold on Sunday.

Mustang 10U played their first sanctioned game on Wednesday but lost before beating Diamond Bar Friday night. They lost to San Gabriel on Saturday and were eliminated from the District 1 tournament. However, there are still Sections that are hosted in Walnut starting July 9th when they play West Covina Blue.
