After losing their first game in the Region tournament in Azusa, Walnut’s Pony 14U team took the hard route to qualify for the Super Regions. They had to win 4 straight games against the best 14U teams in the region, which they did by at least 6 runs, in order to reach the East Region, West Zone championship game and an automatic qualification to the Super Region. On Monday night they faced our rival city, Diamond Bar and came out on top by a final score of 9-3, eliminating Diamond Bar.
Tuesday night they will face the only team to have beaten them so far, Covina, for the East Region championship. Since Covina is undefeated, Walnut will need to beat them twice to claim the title. Walnut manager Rene Aviles is asking all Walnut fans to make the trip out to Gladstone Park on Tuesday night at 5pm to help cheer on one of the last two remaining Walnut all-star teams.
